Santa Maria Novella:

Florence's Santa Maria Novella was the earliest of the great Florentine churches to be built. The stunning Renaissance façade of the former Dominican headquarters is matched by the beautiful interior, which houses works by Renaissance masters such as Brunelleschi, Ghirlandaio and Lippi. Also worthy of note is the stunning Cappella Strozzi, which takes its inspiration from Dante's Inferno. Next to Santa Maria Novella is the church museum, worth a look for the vivid frescoes in the cloisters and trhe Spanish Chapel. Take time to relax in the piazza in front of the church, a favourite picnic spot for the Florentines....
