"Thought the room could have been alot better for the money paid, and we were put on the floor where refurbishment was being undertaken, so there was alot of noise first thing in the morning." (97156504)

It is near the NIA venue, where we saw Duran Duran in concert approximately 10 mins walk. It was in the centre of town. Staff are friendly, morning breakfast was of good quality.

The room was shabby, bits missing off of the bathroom taps, and the toilet overflowed over the bathroom floor whilst we were out.

some noisy customers, some rooms have the window facing the opposite side rooms windows, hence lacking privacy, and sometimes room cleaning was done late in the afternoon. I guess that for the price and location, there are some compromises...

"A thoroughly depressing experience! Not what one would expect from a city centre hotel." (99097904)

    I can't think of any!

The hotel was tired and in dire need of modernising and refurbishment. The staff were not rude but needed some training in customer service and how to conduct themselves in a proper manner. The room was appaling! It was dark and dingy. The windows looked out on to an alley and another building but had no nets so I had to keep the curtains closed all the time. The bed was old, the pillows flat. The telephone didn't work so I had to use my mobile to call room sevice which when it came was inedible! The bathroom was old and in need of modernisation. The clean towel was on top of the rubber mat which goes in the bath! On the board in the lobby, the room rate was advertised at £160! I paid £85 which I feel was far too much for accommodation of this poor standard.

To my mind I either book a hotel or I don't. I was actually cross about this matter and this matter will effect how and where I book/stay in the future. Details were stored because your staff said when questioned, that if I had not arrived for my stay, payment would have been taken." (97233170)

"I had read a number of terrible online reviews of the hotel prior to my stay and was not looking forwards to visiting. Thankfully the hotel was not as bad as I had feared. The general decoration of both corridors and room is shabby and outdated and the bed cover had a hole in it. However the room was clean and the bed sheets were nice and crisp. I was disappointed by the ancient TV and lack of Sky channels. The morning breakfast was OK, nothing special. If I'd paid full price for the stay then I'd have felt ripped off, but the online discounted price was fair enough." (97547122)

    Good central city location

Poor standard of decoration, ancient TV without any Sky channels, terrible bed and pillows - both were rock hard. Very slow lifts.

  • 8/10 Anonymous ( Solo business traveller)

"Actually I passed the hotel without seeing it! I know this sounds a bit stupid, but the entrance was pictured on the internet and I could not see this entrance and somehow failed to see all the banners etc.! I would recommend your hotel, but I would warn about the lifts and the carpet. In fairness it is just that it was stained not that it was dirty." (97724007)

The location was absolutely terrific; the staff were pleasant; the breakfast was good; the on-line booking process was simple and the price competitive.

They could not find my booking on arrival; there was an atmosphere of considerable confusion at the check in desk; the lifts are not great; the bedroom carpet was stained.

Room was clean, comfortable and well-decorated. Breakfast was very good.

Would have preferred a no-smoking room - wasn't given a choice. Hotel corridors were very bleak - walls appeared to have been stripped but no sign of any decorators about. Evening meal in restaurant was of poor standard.

"No food available on Sunday evening when I arrived, I was very hungry after a 6 hour train journey to get there. As I didn't know the area a pizza was bought in for me but that was all they could offer me. The next day the room service menu was unavailable due to one of the kitchens being closed and I was unable to have the salmon. I was told only a carvery was available, I went down to the restaurant expecting a slice of meat and veg only to be told that the carvery consisted of sweet and sour chicken with stir fried veg, beef casserole, lamb balti and veg lasagne to order, as I was extremely hungry I decided to have the stir fried veg with chicken, when this was served it was infact a chicken casserole which no more resembled stir fried veg or sweet and sour chicken. The cook advised me that although the beef and lamb was cooked it was very chewey as it needed as extra 15-30 minutes cooking to soften it up more, she told us this because she said if we were pre-warned then we couldn't complain afterwards! The food I ate filled a hole but that is all that could be said for it. I was not impressed." (97869579)

    It was adequate

A stain on the bed cover even though it still had the cleaning ticket on, there was no 3 pin plug to put a hairdryer in, (I do not find the small hairdryers provided powerful enough)
